![]() Remember how God not only said “ Honor one another above yourselves.”, but showed us what that truly means as he gave us his Son as our Savior. Think for a moment about how many arguments and disagreements often come about because something didn’t go our way or someone stepped on our ego or our selfish desires were not fulfilled. ![]() How often do we think of other people before ourselves? Just listen for an hour or so to many people’s conversation and you’ll quickly realize how often people use words like “I” and “me”. If we look at the second part of this week’s Bible verse “ Honor one another above yourselves.”, we can better understand how to carry out the first part of it. Honor one another above yourselves.”?ĭoing something which God asks us to do requires that we look to God first instead of doing what so often happens – following the ways, ideas and opinions of the world. With such a seeming unstable commodity as love can be, how can we possibly carry out the encouragement of our Bible verse for this week – “ Be devoted to one another in love. The next moment they are cursing and screaming at each other and love is the last thing on their minds. ![]() One moment people can be all nice and kind – saying and trying to show how they love each other. Think about how for many people love is a very fickle and fluctuating idea. Our Bible verse for this week is part of a portion of the Bible which speaks about how we as Christians are to show love all the time and in all circumstances. People usually talk about and focus on love on Valentine’s Day. By this, you will be heaping red-hot coals on his head.Ģ1 Do not be mastered by evil, but master evil with good.Romans 12:10 “ Be devoted to one another in love. As scripture says: Vengeance is mine - I will pay them back, the Lord promises.Ģ0 And more: If your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat if thirsty, something to drink. Do not congratulate yourself on your own wisdom.ġ7 Never pay back evil with evil, but bear in mind the ideals that all regard with respect.ġ8 As much as possible, and to the utmost of your ability, be at peace with everyone.ġ9 Never try to get revenge: leave that, my dear friends, to the Retribution. Pay no regard to social standing, but meet humble people on their own terms. Avoid what is evil stick to what is good.ġ0 In brotherly love let your feelings of deep affection for one another come to expression and regard others as more important than yourself.ġ1 In the service of the Lord, work not halfheartedly but with conscientiousness and an eager spirit.ġ2 Be joyful in hope, persevere in hardship keep praying regularly ġ3 share with any of God's holy people who are in need look for opportunities to be hospitable.ġ4 Bless your persecutors never curse them, bless them.ġ5 Rejoice with others when they rejoice, and be sad with those in sorrow.ġ6 Give the same consideration to all others alike. ![]() When you give, you should give generously from the heart if you are put in charge, you must be conscientious if you do works of mercy, let it be because you enjoy doing them.ĩ Let love be without any pretence. 1 I urge you, then, brothers, remembering the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, dedicated and acceptable to God that is the kind of worship for you, as sensible people.Ģ Do not model your behaviour on the contemporary world, but let the renewing of your minds transform you, so that you may discern for yourselves what is the will of God - what is good and acceptable and mature.ģ And through the grace that I have been given, I say this to every one of you: never pride yourself on being better than you really are, but think of yourself dispassionately, recognising that God has given to each one his measure of faith.Ĥ Just as each of us has various parts in one body, and the parts do not all have the same function:ĥ in the same way, all of us, though there are so many of us, make up one body in Christ, and as different parts we are all joined to one another.Ħ Then since the gifts that we have differ according to the grace that was given to each of us: if it is a gift of prophecy, we should prophesy as much as our faith tells us ħ if it is a gift of practical service, let us devote ourselves to serving if it is teaching, to teaching Ĩ if it is encouraging, to encouraging. ![]()
